Abstract/Contents: | Describes the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection's (Mass. DEP) "new weapon for use in determining compliance with the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act." The program, which "compares aerial photography from 1990...with recent aerial photography to find changes in wetlands topography and vegetation...will tend to level the playing field for those who follow the law...and those who don't." Details the procedure the DEP follows after noticing a violation. Discusses the potential limitations of the program's accuracy, but adds that "this is changing." Lists the goals of the program and the potentional harm it may have on golf course management practices. Suggests that superintendents "work with the local conservation commission," along with filing a Notice of Intent permit application and "develop...wetland mapping for [their] course" to avoid violations. |
