Abstract/Contents:Discusses the Organic Lawncare Conference held...in Toronto, Canada. Mentions the Organic Landscape Alliance (OLA). States that "OLA is a...non-profit, professional organization of landscaping professionals who provide organic services and want to raise the profile of pesticide-free horticulture through educational programs such as conferences and practical workshops." Discusses programs implemented in Toronto, stating that "the city adopted a plant health care program which emphasizes creating healthly growing conditions for plants in order to optimize plant health. By implementing pest monitoring systems, pests are prevented from becoming a problem, and the most susceptible point in a pest's lifecycle is identified so that a non-toxic product such as an insecticidal soap or sticky trap can be used successfully." Concludes that "the conference proved to be an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about the latest technique in pesticide-free landscaping and to meet other professionals who are successfully using organic services to their customers."
