Abstract/Contents:Profiles sedges which "typically achieve fame by holding prominent places amoung the world's most trouble weed species" and discusses potential weed-control programs. States that "if the underlying problem that has allowed weeds an opportunity for invasion is not fixed, new weeds will simply invade the area after the current weeds are controlled." Recommends avoiding excessive irrigation, aerifying and improving drainage, and treating small infestations before they expend as possible ways to limit sedge establishment. States that "preemergence herbicides can not shoulder the sedge-control burden alone" and that "most sedge problems are tackled with postemergence herbicides." Provides recommendations for the use of both contact and systemic herbices for sedge control. States that "sedges can be treated at any time from emergence until frost" and that treatment may need to be done twice to control sedges throughout the season.
