Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the effect of dry weather on pest populations in the United States. States that "the big news for 2006 has been the very dry weather. In areas of North and South Carolina it is not uncommon for rainfall to be running 8 or 9 inches below normal for the spring." Reports that "sometimes dry springs set us up for more serious problems with caterpillars such as armyworms." Also states that "dry weather can also delay the emergence of beetles in the late spring and early summer." Concludes that "these conditions further remind us of the need to monitor insects and not treat solely on calendar scheduling." |
