Abstract/Contents:Discusses three important parts of golf course conditoning: sand, grass, and trees. Describes tree removal as necessary stating "you can't have championship conditions when greens receive sunlight for as little as two hours per day." Emphasizes the importance of sand within rootzones, stating "such sand-amendment programs are needed for long-term turf health." Discusses the advantages of annual bluegrass stating "it adapts to a variety of putting surface conditions and produces its own seed to repopulate areas bare from damage." Also illustrates the disadvatages of annual bluegrass stating that "it often dies from harsh winters or requires intensive care during the summer." Concludes that "the danger is when other courses take the wrong route in trying to mimic [major championship] conditions on a year-round basis."
