| Question: | "When the thaw set in following a period of very hard frost we considered it advisable to prohibit the use of caddy carts until the frost came out of the ground. This action was taken with a view of preserving satisfactory conditions as the course is very heavily played and a high number of caddy carts are used. Our action has resulted in some very hard comments from the players and we would be interested in your opinion on this matter." |

| Answer/Response: | "We feel that your action in prohibiting the used of caddy carts following the sudden thaw was justified. It is a pity that players do not realise such action is taken to preserve the turf. During winter months we consider that when the course is excessively wet or the immediate surface is soft following a sudden thaw the prohibition of caddy carts is sound policy and completely justified. No hard and fast rules are laid down on this subject but many private clubs take this action realising the damage that can be done by caddy carts adjacent to greens and tees." |
