Question: | "Following our site meeting with you in September, we instructed the Contractor to complete the stone picking, rolling and mowing specified for. This work has not been done due, we gather, to wet weather. The grass is now some 5 in. high and is still unrolled and uncut. We would be pleased to have your further recommendations." |
Answer/Response: | "It is unfortunate that the grass has been allowed to grow so long before the first cut. We feel the specified treatment must now be varied as efficient removal of surface stones cannot be done due to the cover of long grass. Cutting is the first requirement. As soon as conditions allow the grass must be cut at about 2 in. height. This could either be done with a rough cut type of gang mower in which case grass left lying on the surface should be raked up and cleared off, or by a forage type rotary cutter which cuts and draws off the cut grass. Since growth has virtually stopped we feel that the site should then be left to over-winter, though any obvious large stones should be removed. In early spring just before growth starts stones should be removed and rolling should follow. Mowing should then start as detailed in the specification." |
