Abstract/Contents: | Details the construction of four polo grounds "next to Cambridge and Newmarket Polo Club's existing 36-acre site" in the United Kingdom. Explains that the "biggest problem is that [the grounds staff] underestimated the sheer volume of stones in the field. Even after removing the surface debris with a combination of mechanical and manual stone collecting, the number of stones thrown up during the series of preparations left a completely unusable surface." Mentions the use of the Blecavator stone burier. States that "a heavy duty contra-rotating rotor, equipped with special bolt on blades, digs into the ground up to 8" [inches] (200mm [millimeters]) deep on the larger [Blecavator] models, lifting and throwing the soil, rocks and debris...against a sorting screen mounted behind the motor." Details maintenance procedures used at the club, stating that "a 20:10:10 fertiliser [fertilizer] is applied in April by a contractor, followed by subsequent dressings in June and July, and at least 1,000 tonnes [metric tons] of top dressing is spread as divot mix during the season." |
