Abstract/Contents:Discusses water restrictions in the South Eastern United Kingdom in 2006. States that "for the first time groundsmen and greenkeepers are facing the prospect of being unable to irrigate - even when sports turf is facing certain death." Explains that "the period from November 2004 to January 2006 has been the second driest since records began in 1914 and, making matters much worse, water consumption has increased massively in the intervening period. The Environment Agency is extremely concerned about the impact of drought in the South East of the country, particularly Sussex and Kent." States that "the first drought order by Sutton and East Surrey Water [Company] will affect 58 golf courses, 363 playing fields, 171 sports grounds, 56 recreation grounds and 25 parks."
