Abstract/Contents:"'Redhaven' peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch.] trees were planted into an established Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.) sod. Mefluidide, flurprimidol, amidochlor, mefluidide + flurprimidol, mefluidide + chlorsulfuron, and glyphosate were applied to the sod in a 1.5 m band on both sides of the tree. Additional treatments included an unmowed sod, sod mowed to 8 cm, and clean cultivation. In 1984, mefluidide reduced grass height as compared to the unmowed sod at 12 weeks after treatment. Two weeks later, only mefluidide + flurprimidol had shorter grass height than the unmowed sod. Peach leaf water potential in glyphosate-treated and clean cultivated plots was higher than that of all other treatments. Trees in growth regulator-treated plots, the unmowed sod, and mowed control had less trunk cross-sectional area (TCA) than those in the clean cultivated and glyphosate-treated plots. In 1985, those plots receiving flurprimidol had less grass height than all other treatments in the 6 weeks after treatment. Peach leaf water potential in the glyphosate-treated plots was higher than that of all other treatments. Both TCA and terminal growth of trees in growth regulator-treated plots were less than trees in the glyphosate-treated or clean cultivated plots."
