Abstract/Contents:Discusses the tips and techniques for painting on sports fields used at Sun Devil Stadium at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe, Arizona, stating that they "use airless paint machines for everything." Discusses how the maintenance crew came up with the idea of "having permanent, metal anchors embedded in the concrete [curb gutter that runs the preimeter of the field]...set at the correct points to attach the string lines for the marking points for our end lines and sidelines" and how "for most games played at ASU, [they] graph out letters and logo designs rather than using stencils." Describes the process of graphing, stating that "with logos, [they] determine the height and width of the total design and the various elements with the design according to the graph ratio" and then they "transfer the grid from the graph paper to the field." Discusses the conversion system developed for when an ASU game on Saturday is followed by [an Arizona] Cardinals game on Sunday" as well as the process for painting practice fields and the preparation of the field for Super Bowl XXX.
