Abstract/Contents:Discusses the growing impact of lawn watering on irrigated agriculture due to the limited supply of water. States that "any effort to maximize the available agricultural water must include minimizing the water demand by lawns." Reports that lawns have a low irrigation efficency, which points to the opportunity to save large amounts of water through improved practices. Notes that times of high water usage reduce the ability to meet fire demands. Notes that reducing peak flow rates would allow for smaller municipal water systems and cheaper home water bills. States that the Agricultural Engineering Division at the University of Wyoming has been studying water use of urban lawns since 1975 with the aim of calibrating exisiting evapotranspiration formulas for urban lawn conditions.
