Abstract/Contents:Announces the withdrawal of a Carmel Development Co., and the Pebble Beach Co., proposal for a golf course on "the Monterey Peninsula's environmentally sensitive Del Monte Forest." States that "because of environmental concerns, officials associated with the course were expecting the Coastal Commission to strike down the $500 million proposal, which was to include an 18-hole Tom Fazio-designed course, practice range, equestrian center, 160 additional hotel rooms and conference facilities, as well as additional underground parking and 34 residential sites." Also states that "the withdrawal follows several years of controversy. In 2000, local voters approved an amendment called Measure A, which would rezone 600 acres to allow for development." States that, "the Del Monte Forest site is sensitive habitat and should be protected by the 1972 California Costal Act, a land-sue law designed to preserve the environment."
