Abstract/Contents:Discusses renovations made to the Forest Lake Reservoir in California. States that "seven Pebble Beach-area golf courses will be able to draw recycled wastewater from the 105 million-gallon reservoir instead of using drinking water to irrigate the turf." Briefly profiles the reservoir "built in the 1880s and owned by the California-American Water Co...[and bought by the Pebble Beach Community Services District in 1998, but had sat dry and unused for almost 15 years." Details the renovation process that included "the installation of a 950,000-square-foot hypalon liner and a lead-detection system on the interior surface of the reservoir." Lists Pebble Beach Golf Links, Cypress Point Club, Poppy Hills Golf Course, Spyglass Hill Golf Course, The Links at Spanish Bay, and two courses at Monterrey Peninsula Country Club as recipients of the recycled water from the reservoir. Mentions Phase 2 of the renovation "to improve the quality of recycled water," stating that "the sodium level of the recycled water is a concern because the salt tolerance of the Poa annua turf that dominated the Monterey Peninsula...the sodium levels of the reservoir isn't that high but it's too high for Poa. This means the golf course still must use drinking water five days a month to flush the turf of sodium residue." Concludes that "once the system is in place...the golf courses will rely 100 percent on the water from the reservoir."
