Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the use of zoysiagrass on daily fee golf courses. States that "ConCan (Texas) Country Club at Mountain Valley, a semi-private facility scheduled to open in November [2006], has begun sodding its fairways with Carrizo zoysia, a fine-textured variety previously used only at private clubs." Explains that "it's a myth that zoysia must be sodded. It can be sprigged...It just takes a little longer to establish." Reports that "under favorable conditions, Bermuda will establish in three months...sprigged zoysia will establish within 4½ to 5 months." Cautions that some varieties of zoysia "are susceptible to brown patch, especially during grow-in, but...much of that is because many superintendents maintain them as they do Bermudagrass, applying too much water and fertilizer. Excessive rainfall, especially in the winter, can be troublesome as well." |
