Abstract/Contents:Discusses the potential benefits of using paspalum grass on golf courses in costal areas. Suggests that paspalum is "more environmentally friendly, requires less maintenance expense and it's easier to maintain. States that "[because paspalum] can survive in areas where irrigation water has a high salt content." Suggests that paspalum may be able to reduce water and nitrogen fertilizer usage and allow divots to heal faster. Concludes that "while most industry experts agree that paspalum can be the ideal solution for courses in warm coastal climes wihout access to potable water for irrigation, many superintendents are taking a wait-and-see attitude" due to concern about the strand's disease and pest resistance and tendency to spread to unwanted areas of the course.
