Abstract/Contents:Discusses topics presented at the 2006 Toro Irrigation WaterSmart Symposium, including wholesale conservation measures and worldwide water shortage. States that "the daylong seminar [was] geared mostly to an audience of water purveyors and irrigators...speakers relayed that water supplies quickly are dwindling." Also states that "one third of the world's population lives in water-stressed areas...[and] it's getting worse...for a number of reasons, including global warming and an [a] growing population." Lists "recommendations for greater landscape water use efficiency, [including]...water-conserving rate structures that encourage more efficient water use, use of recycled water in urban landscapes and required use of smart controllers." Concludes that "Toro officials hope to continue the WaterSmart Symposium...[and] attendees were encouraged to fill out surveys and make suggestions."
