Abstract/Contents: | Discusses water conservation practices and technology that golf course superintendents used before residential and landscape lawn industries discovered them. States that the good news is that superintendents are "pretty efficient water users [but]...the bad news is that [superintendents] really haven't done a very good job of spreading the word beyond [the golf] industry." Also states that "the use of water-efficient plants also has a place in...landscape design." Suggests that "it is in the best interest of those in the golf industry to reach out to irrigation specialists and water providers." States that "as a longtime leader in water conservation, the golf industry must promote its water-saving ideas." Concludes that "golf courses make an easy target as wasters of waters because the industry serves a relatively small segment of the overall populations." |
