Question:"Areas of our hockey and football pitches re-turfed in spring are now looking very poor and it looks as though the turves have died out. Have you any explanation for this?"
Answer/Response:"We suggest the main reason for the failure is the fibrous nature of the turf used. We recall commenting on this during our advisory visit and wonder if the turf we saw was actually used. It is a fact that fibrous turf is very difficult to get rooted satisfactorily. Dry spring weather will not have helped much either, and although plenty of rain occurred later, a thorough soaking early in the year would have helped. It may also be that scalping has occurred due to lack of uniformity when laying."
