Abstract/Contents: | Discusses maintenance practices on golf courses. Describes how Paul B. Latshaw, superintendent at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublion, Ohio, "showed how important it is to be innovative in a pinch." Explains that "when the order came down from the PGA [Professional Golfer's Association] Tour to produce furrows that would make hitting into Muirfield's bunkers highly punitive for PGA Tour players, Latshaw was faced with a tight deadline and few, if any, leads. Quick thinking led him to buy 160 rakes from a Michigan manufacturer and break off every other tine so the rakes would produce furrows that were the width the Tour and tournament host Jack Nicklaus wanted." |
