Abstract/Contents:Suggests that "the golf industry has become obsessed with green speed" and that "the golf course maintenance industry would be better served if that obsession could be diverted to consistency of putting green surfaces." Explains a potential way to increase green speed, recommending to "mow lower and more often." Also explains "the concept of how superintendents can work with golfers to identify the ideal green speed for a particular course." Discusses possible misconceptions that golf superintendents may have, including that they notice "increased green speeds when measuring readings throughout the day." States that "in most cases...most golfers [can] not detect green speed changes of less than 6 inches." Concludes that "although it is easy to get caught up in the obsession with faster greens, doing so can be a long-term detriment to putting surface health."
