| Abstract/Contents: | Explains how Jack MacKenzie, Certified Golf Course Superintendent (CGCS) at North Oaks Golf Club in Minnesota, and Jeff Schaefer, MacKenzie's assistant, "are recovering alcoholics who depend on each other on a daily basis." States that "neither man attributes his abuse of alcohol directly to the enormous stresses placed upon superintendents and their staffs to keep golf courses in perfect condition." Describes how MacKenzie "experienced dramatic mood swings that made him difficult to live with" which eventually led to his divorce and temporary sobriety in 1992. States that "there were days when [MacKenzie] wasn't doing [his] best work." Also describes how Schaefer's "fallout from drinking showed up at work" and how he lost his job with the city of Brooklyn Park. Also states that "when [Schaefer's Alcoholics Annoymous (AA)] sponsor moved to another part of the country, Schaefer turned to MacKenzie." Concludes that "[alcoholics] need to be brutally honest with [themselves] for [their] recovery to be successful and understand it's all about getting help." |
