Abstract/Contents:Discusses the difficulties of maintaining golf courses during summertime, including temperature, moisture stress and pests. States that "Penn A-4 and Crenshaw stand up to heat better than other varieties of bentgrass." Describes how "precise watering and a well-drained rootzone are keys to maximizing heat tolerance." Also states that "because cool-season grasses are more susceptible to disease, superintendents must be precise with every aspect of managing the turf." Concludes that "summer inherently is a stressful time for cool-season turf...[the golf industry has] the knowldge and technology to compensate for what nature throws at [them]."
