| Question: | "I am a practising groundsman at a large sports centre complex. I would like to further my career by obtaining a recognised qualification in sports turf management. Who should I get in touch with?" |

| Answer/Response: | "With the addition of recent national schemes to the existing system, the education of greenkeepers and groundsmen has become a complex subject. The National Turfgrass Council have published a booklet "Turfgrass Education Update '88" which provides useful information on the avenues open for greenkeepers and groundsmen wishing to obtain formal qualifications. Part-time and full-time studies are detailed, including the examinations of the Institute of Groundsmanship and moving upwards through Higher National Diploma and Bachelor of Science courses. Further information about the availability of this booklet can be obtained from: The Secretary, NTC, 3 Ferrands Park Way, Harden, Bingley, West Yorkshire, BD16 1HZ (tel: 0535 273188). The Greenkeeper Training Committee has representatives from the four home golf unions plus representatives from the Golf Greenkeeping Association and this committee has formulated a list of colleges which are approved establishments for greenkeeper training. The Sports Turf Research Institute can provide this list on request." |
