| Question: | "Do you recommend the use of growth retardant chemicals as we have a number of areas (e.g. old cemeteries) where mowing is difficult and reducing grass growth would be an advantage?" |

| Answer/Response: | "There are a number of products on the market for growth reducing purposes, the majority being based on maleic hydrazide or on mefluidide. These certainly have the desired effect but since they cause some discoloration of the grass, particularly during dry conditions, they are therefore not recommended for areas where appearance is important. We would, for example, certainly not recommend their use or sports turf areas, golf course fairways etc. For incidental areas like cemeteries or roadside verges they could certainly be useful." |
