| Question: | "We have recently employed a school-leaver on our ground staff and he has adjusted to the work very well and is a keen and interested worker. Therefore, we would like to have him entered for your examinations on turf culture and we would be pleased if you would send the relevant particulars." |

| Answer/Response: | "We feel that you may be under some misapprehension. We do not actually organise examinations but we do provide an intensive course of instruction in turf management over a period of five days at the end of which we issue an attendance certificate. We believe that ground staff benefit considerably from such courses and details are enclosed. However, having regard to the youth and inexperience of your new man and looking at his long term education in this field, you should make enquiries about local evening classes or, better still, day release courses in turf culture and groundsmanship at an agricultural/horticultural or technical college. The young man could then, with advantage, come to one of our courses in two or three years' time. You should also contact:- The Institute of Groundsmanship, 108a, Chessington Road, West Ewell, Surry. who will be available to provide information on their particular examination scheme and on courses they have arranged." |
