Question:"We are planning to carry out the lime treatment on the playing fields as recently advised and have discovered that factory waste lime is available locally at very low cost. Would this material be suitable?"
Answer/Response:"Waste lime from sugar beet factories is, in our experience, a rather variable commodity, especially with regard to its physical condition. Even if the material is dry uneven distribution may occur if it is at all lumpy. Unless you can be sure of getting a particularly good supply we would prefer that ground carbonate of lime be used at the rate specified in our report and applied by a lime or fertilizer spreader."
