| Question: | "Over the past few days some of our courts have developed the symptoms of an established outbreak of Fusarium patch disease. We have treated with a systemic fungicide but have had very disappointing results. A sample of the diseased turf which has not yet been treated with fungicide is enclosed and we would be grateful for your comments." |

| Answer/Response: | "We have examined the sample of turf and the disease is not in fact Fusarium patch disease although the symptoms are extremely similar. The affected grass is largely annual meadow grass and it is being attacked by another fungus namely Drechslera sorokiniana which is not affected by systemic fungicides containing thiobendizole or benomyl. The disease is not easy to recognise in the field and sending a sample for examination was certainly wise. A contact fungicide based on chlorothalonil should give effective control measures. The disease has only recently been recognised and does not yet have a common name." |
