| Question: | "The enclosed weed is invading my lawn. Could you identify it and tell me how to control it since the weedkillers I have tried do not seem to be very effective?" |

| Answer/Response: | "The weed has been identified as Soleirolia soleirolii (=Helxine soleirolii) which is more commonly known as "Mind your own business" or "Mother of thousands". In our experience this weed is uncommon in turf and we do not have any definite knowledge of the control measures for it. The most likely selective weedkillers are those containing the following chemicals either alone or in mixtures:- mecoprop, dicamba or ioxynil. Before using the selective weedkillers it would be worthwhile trying a lawnsand containing sulphate of iron. A suitable mixture for use at the rate of 4-6 oz./sq. yd. on several occasions during the growing season would be:- 3 parts by weight sulphate of ammonia, 1 part by weight calcined sulphate of iron, 20 parts by weight lime free sand." |
