| Question: | "A pipeline is to be laid across our links course and it will pass through a belt of sand dunes. These are not very stable and we would like to know where to obtain seed of marram grass since we want to establish a cover on the excavated dunes when they are re-instated." |

| Answer/Response: | "The seed of marram grass is not available commercially. A stabilizing cover of this grass can be established by planting 3-6 in. clumps of marram grass at 2 ft. centres. The clumps should be planted deeply and firmly during the period October to March. The replanted areas may need protection with brushwood or netting during establishment. Any existing marram grass should be dug up in clumps prior to excavations starting. The clumps should be 'heeled in' and reserved until a suitable time for replanting. In order to ensure re-instatement is carried out satisfactorily on both the dunes and the rest of the course, it would be wise to have a proper specification drawn up. We would be glad to help with this." |
