| Question: | "We are at present making out our order for seed mixtures and are rather puzzled by your recommendation of 1 oz. to the sq. yd. for the courts. Is this correct? We are anxious to bring them into play by the middle of next year." |

| Answer/Response: | "The recommended seed rate of 1 oz. per sq. yd. for the courts is our usual recommendation even though you require the courts to be in play by the middle of next year. The most important point is to get the seed bed really fine and true and of course the weather also plays an important part. Seed rates much higher than 1 oz. per sq. yd. usually lead to excessive competition between grass seedlings and sometimes to disease problems. If you wish to increase the seed rate to 1 1/4 -1 ½ oz. per sq. yd. we would not have any objection, although this should not really be necessary." |
