Abstract/Contents:Profiles Kirk Schneider, former golf course superintendent, and his decision to begin a career in sales in 1988. States that Schneider "is one of countless superintendents who have [has] moved on to other occupations at least in part because of the stress created by long hours, unrealistic expectations of golfers and club management, and unremitting battles with Mother Nature." Describes possible downfalls of making the transition from superintendent to salesman, stating that "missed is the...camaraderie with fellow superintendents and co-workers." Details the process Schneider went through to leave his course and ultimately become an assistant professor of turfgrass management at Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Conway, South Carolina. Also briefly profiles other superintendents who switched careers.
