Question:"We have been troubled in the past with what we think is knot weed on our football pitches. How can we control it?"
Answer/Response:"The knot weed seedlings should be sprayed with a 2,4-D selective weedkiller at normal rates when they are at the two-leaved stage and most susceptible to this weedkiller. Renovation can be carried out quite safely two to three days after spraying with this chemical. However, knot weed is very difficult to catch at this time and it is usually found that renovation has to be completed first. A period of 10-12 weeks must then elapse before control can be attempted, when an MCPA type selective weedkiller can be used, or one of the newer formulations of MCPA with dicamba."
