| Question: | "Our Greens Committee seeks advice on how to get rid of common reeds which grow prolifically in certain burns on our course." |

| Answer/Response: | "The traditional method of control is by cutting followed by raking out. Chemical control measures can also be taken. We suggest you try a dalapon product such as Dowpon or Dalacide at the manufacturer's recommended rate of application. Treatment can be carried out at any time during the growing season which is usually from May to the end of August. It is stressed however that certain safety precautions must be observed, details being found on the manufacturer's label. You should also consult the appropriate River Authority or Board before introducing any chemical into a water course. Chemical control in combination with cutting and raking should prove effective in dealing with the problem." |
