Question:"Would it be beneficial to allow the grazing of sheep on the sports field?"
Answer/Response:"We are afraid that good sports turf and livestock do not go well together since, not only will the sheep foul the surface (and this can be carried into the pavilion on boots and shoes) but also, since they are selective grazers, they will tend to leave coarse patches of grass more or less untouched i.e. the effects of mowing are much more indiscriminate and likely to give a more uniform surface. If sheep were allowed on the fine turf areas i.e. the cricket table, tennis courts, etc. they would be expected to produce widespread scorching and damage to the playing surface. A consequent drop in turf standards would therefore ensue."
