Question:"We find that the process of keeping bunkers free of weeds is a laborious one. We were wondering if a bunker could be treated with some kind of weedkiller which would have a long term effect, preventing the appearance of weeds for a considerable period."
Answer/Response:"Persistent weedkillers such as simazine, monuron etc. might be used for weed control in bunkers but there are serious drawbacks. In particular sand contaminated with weedkiller will seriously damage turf when splashed or blown on to it. If bunkers have become very weedy short persistence weedkillers such as paraquat and diquat can be used to kill off the vegetation before cultivation. There are some very useful special tools for bunker cultivation!"
