Suggests superintendents employ a detective like methodology in identifying turf grass diseases using turf stand symptoms, plant symptoms, and disease signs as "clues." Details the chemistry of fungicides and states that "to practicing [practice] proper resistant management by rotating chemical families, it is important to know the chemical families of the fungicides [one is] using." Mentions contact fungicides which "should only be used preventatively" and systemic fungicides which are "fungicides that will penetrate the plant tissue protecting the plant from the inside out." Discusses factors involved in the performance of fungicides, including UV light, precipitation, wind and microbes as well as application techniques.
