| Question: | "We laid out new playing fields three years ago, yet, although apparently adequately drained, after any reasonable shower they become waterlogged and appear to dry only by evaporation. We have been advised to contact you with regard to obtaining a soil analysis. Can you advise us if you would be able to do this. If so, how soon and the approximate cost." |

| Answer/Response: | "I am sorry to hear of your trouble with the playing field but I am afraid that it will need more than a soil test to put it right. It sounds to us very much like faults in construction with which we are unfortunately very familiar and may indeed prove quite a big job to put right. We hope not, of course, for your sake. This Institute advises only associate members and I enclose an application form which you may care to complete. On the assumption that you become affiliated the way we would help you would undoubtedly be by visiting the site and reporting on what we find with recommendations as to dealing with the situation. The costs involved, of course, depend on the size of the job and we will be able to quote you when you return the application form." |
