| Question: | "We have your Specification for playing fields we are constructing. We anticipate that the school building operations will be completed by August and wonder if you consider if any advantage would be gained by making a start to the playing field work during August." |

| Answer/Response: | "If work is started in August there is a great danger that operations would be interrupted by wet weather and ground conditions or that work would go ahead when ground conditions were unfavourable. This could prove very damaging to the soil and greatly aggravate problems which normally arise in satisfactorily draining land disturbed by grading. In any event seeding would have to be delayed until the following spring and the establishment of grass arising from spring seedings is often checked by dry spells and weed competition. If time permits we suggest the start of work should be delayed until the spring. It would have been better to have started much earlier so that the field would be ready for use at the same time as the buildings." |
