| Question: | "On a school playing field which we are having constructed you have advised additional sub-soil cultivation after drainage and top soil cultivation but before commencing seed bed preparation. It appears that the sub-soiler would cut through branch drains. Would this not cause unnecessary damage?" |

| Answer/Response: | "We don't often recommend sub-soil cultivation after drainage but it sometimes becomes desirable. In your case the drains are deep enough to permit it so that when sub-soil cultivation after draining has been completed the sub-soil shoe will pass through the stone filling of the lateral drains on every run. No damage to drains is likely because the sub-soil cultivator is well above the actual drain and the only drawback possible is perhaps some soil being mixed with the backfilling." |
