| Question: | "Coast erosion is a problem with our club and we would like advice regarding the sowing of Marram grass to reclaim some land and stabilize the loose sand being blown on to our fairways." |

| Answer/Response: | "Seed of Marram grass is not commercially available and usually where the problem of coast erosion exists this grass is planted out at about 2 ft. centres. If you wish to reclaim an area of sand dunes you would require to find an area on the coast where the Marram grass grows. The tufts would have to be dug up without damaging the roots too severely. These would then be split into small clumps of about 3 in. diameter. September or October is the best time for planting and when the operation is carried out it is vitally important to plant the grass fairly deeply and very firmly. Temporary protection by brushwood or wire netting is very useful." |
