Question:"We are anxious to know what steps should be taken to remove pearlwort from our greens. Also at what height should we mow our greens?"
Answer/Response:"To control pearlwort spraying should be carried out with one of the CMPP weedkillers. As this is rather a difficult weed to control two or three separate applications may be required during good growing weather at intervals of about 3-4 weeks. Mowing too closely encourages pearlwort and weakens the turf. You must regulate the height at which the machine is cutting according to the season, and the following is a guide to requirements. Spring-autumn periods of drought ¼ in., Normal summer routine mowing 3/16 in., Winter 5/16 in. The height of cut is measured by placing a straight edge across the front and back rollers of your mower. Your cutting height is the distance between the straight edge and the actual cutting edge of the sole plate. A handy tip is to know that the thickness of one penny is 1/16 in. and so for the summer you should be just able to place three pennies in the necessary space."
