Abstract/Contents:Profiles a research seminar held on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, "designed to educate superintendents and assistants about minimizing turf diseases and pest problems through transition in the South Carolina and Georgia Lowcountry." Discusses potential methods for controlling mole crickets. Reports that "because many of the pests that plague golf courses surface, literally, at about the same time each year, many superintendents in the [southeastern United States] attempt to control multiple species with the same product. That means using the same insecticide to halt the advance of such turf-feeding pests as mole crickets, billbugs and the larvae of various types of beetles." Mentions the use of fungicide programs for control of turf diseases including brown patch, dollar spot, fairy ring, fusarium patch, pythium blight, rapid blight, Rhizoctonia leaf and sheath spot, and yellow patch. Concludes that "factors that can affect the Bermuda and that must be considered during overseeding and transition...include agronomic conditions, competition with the overseed, shade, pest outbreaks, stress caused by the presence of pesticides, thatch levels and soil pH levels."
