Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the use of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) in golf course renovation. States that the "technology enables architects, builders and superintendents to attack projects in ways they could not before." Describes the use of HiPer Lite GPS+, stating that "the key to [its] accuracy...is the number of satellites available to the company. Topcon's HiPer generation of GPS products operates on what the company calls a 'dual constellation' system. In addition to the 24 geosynchronus satellites circling the earth above the United States, the HiPer Lite series also has access to a network of Russian satellites. The increased number of satellites means more plotting points and more accurate readings than traditional GPS-based systems." Also describes Pictometry International's mapping technology, stating that the "company's software and oblique aerial photo system can provide up to 12 different views of every fairway, green and other features and gives users measurements such as distance, height, elevation and area." |
