| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles Three Crowns Golf Club in Casper, Wyoming, which was designed by golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. and was converted from a former oil refinery site. States that "while Three Crowns caters to local golfers, BP [British Petroleum] still is actively removing pollutants from the site." Explains that "the $8 million Three Crowns Golf Club is just one part of a $160 million reclamation project in which BP also converted the rusting and dilapidated refinery into a reborn recreation and wildlife center." Discusses "similar projects for shuttered refineries in Sugar Creek [Montana], Wood River [Illinois], and Llandarcy, Wales." Details the history of Three Crowns Golf Club, beginning from 1913. Describes the design and the process for building the golf course. States that "one of the most challenging aspects of the Three Crowns project was designing a water system to irrigate the golf course, clean the polluted water and pump storm water to nearby Soda Lake." Concludes that "the turf is in fine shape...this turf mix will also help clean up and filer out a lot of the bad nutrients." |
