Abstract/Contents:Discusses the Golf Industry Show (GIS) and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) tournaments. States that "the reasons cited for keeping the GCSAA's two golf tournaments in Houston [Texas] are understandable - if [one is] involved in organizing the events or plan to play in one of them. But for those outside the tournaments, which are held in conjunction with the Golf Industry Show, the 800 miles between Houston and Atlanta [Georgia] - already the show's third site for 2006 - might as well be 1 million miles. That is espeically true for the show's exhibitors." Explains that "the GCSAA said its decision was based on the efforts of local organizers, responses from potential tournament participants, the work involved in securing multiple courses for the combined 500-player field and ease of air travel between Atlanta and Houston." Concludes that "it is possible that many who play in the tournaments also will attend the show. But it is also possible that attendance at one event or the other could lag. In deference to vendors, anything that could remotely threaten the vitality of the show should not be an option."
