Abstract/Contents:States that "although the use of the herbicide, 2,4-D on golf courses isn't as common as it once was, a recent ruling by the U.S. [United States] Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] ensures that superintendents will be able to continue using the herbicide into the future if they so choose." Explains that "opponents in the past...have claimed that 2,4-D is a carcinogen, claims that have gone unsupported by numerous studies, according to the EPA." Details that "use of 2,4-D is limited primarily to rough areas, especially on courses where presence of gray leaf spot has caused many courses to convert fairways to bentgrass." States that "the greatest implication for golf regarding re-registration of 2,4-D is for use in aquatics because there are few herbicides that can be applied in ponds, lakes and creeks for weed control." Also states that "the process of re-registration assures pesticide products in the market meet health and environmental standards when used as directed."
