Abstract/Contents: | Discusses potential issues caused by allowing comp golf rounds. States that the opinions of readers "regarding comp golf fell into three main categories:" "those who believe that playing for free is a sacred right for those in the industry"; "those who believe comp golf serves a dual role as compensation to underpaid workers and as a public relations tool to promote the course"; and "those who say the practice of giving away tee times should be abandoned or at least retooled to better achieve the desired objectives of positive public relations and providing an equalizer for relatively low employee compensation." Presents a potential system for "effectively using comp rounds as part of [a] marketing and compensation mix"; "have a strategy and clear guidelines for comp rounds"; "have a system to independently monitor comp rounds"; and "make adjustments as necessary, don't be afraid of change." States that "the market has spoken, and it appears that comp rounds are here to stay for most courses." |
