| Abstract/Contents: | Details the function of the National Turfgrass Research Initiative (NTRI). States that it "is the blueprint for a coordinated national research program to be funded through the [United States Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Research Service] USDA-ARS and conducted through a coalition including the USDA, the university research community, and the turfgrass industry." Lists issues facing the NTRI, including reducing water use and utilizing recycled water, reducing pesticide use and developing biological controls, concerns about safety on athletic fields and in parks, increasing genetic diversity of turfgrass, and improving documentation on the benefits of turfgrass. Also lists the research areas of the NTRI: 1. water, 2. germplasm, 3. pests, 4. environment, 5. soil, and 6. integrated turf management (ITM). |
