| Abstract/Contents: | "A rate calibration determined from spreader pattern test data can be erroneous. Three commercial turf spreaders were tested with two products, an 8/14 grade corn cob and 5-20-20 agricultural fertilizer. In half the comparisons, using pattern data to determine rate resulted in a significantly higher apparent rate than that obtained by a normal rate calibration. Errors in rate calibration were 9% with fertilizer and 16% with corn cob in a Vicon pendulum spreader; 14% with fertilizer and -2% with corn cob in a Lely rotary spreader, and 118% with fertilizer and 40% with corn cob in a Scott walk-behind rotary spreader. This work confirms that pattern data should not be used for rate determinations." |
